Our attempt here is to to define where the contours in the food consumer subject lies in relation to to other closely related subjects
1 The connection to health issues is likely the most difficult distinction.
the suggestion here is to have health issues to be understood on their own merits and then to just understand food consumer issues as strictly locating the types of foods you have already determined as the types of of foods you want
2 We generally treat the consumer issues in the context of buying food products from licensed, or conventional business. however we do include some distinction between what we are calling food cottage producers which are generally local producers who may not have a physical conventional store front. While we do include local coops and consumer cooperatives as part of the discussion we generally do not go into subject such as time banks and alternative economic systems which are generally covered under localism and local capacities in the local networking section
3 If the food consumer, or group of food consumers want greater transparency in the food system then those individuals need to look at what power they have in that process for instance strategies that either request more information from the existing food institutions such as grocers and restaurants Arguably this necessity may be greater at restaurants where suppliers are not seen in a box or can as they will at a grocer
4 Again for those consumers who want change in the system there may need be legal or political changes in the guidelines that govern the local or national food system
